Kidney Transplant Pune
All over the world Kidney Transplant is accepted as the best treatment option for persons with irreversibly damaged kidneys requiring dialysis. Only Kidney Transplantation is able to completely replace all the different functions of kidneys. Quality of life is better and except for the initial cost of transplant it is less expensive than dialysis in the long run. During Kidney transplant a kidney from a healthy donor is grafted in the lower part of the abdomen of the recipient. The diseased kidneys are normally not removed, unless they pose a risk to the transplant surgery. So after transplant a recipient will usually have three kidneys (2 failed kidneys + 1 transplanted kidney).
A Donor can be any healthy person, with compatible blood group and voluntarily willing to donate a kidney as per the transplantation of human organs rules. The donor will be tested in detail by the nephrologist before being accepted as, fit to be a donor. If the Donor is found fit both are referred to an independent Authorization committee, which after assessing the genuineness of the donor and recipient gives legal authorization for the transplant to be performed.

After kidney transplant usually the donor is discharged within a week and the recipient within 10 days. After transplant the patient needs to be on immunosuppressive medications, which need to be taken regularly to prevent rejection of the transplanted kidney. Medicines and there dosages should not be changed without consulting with your doctor. In the initial month the patient needs to visit twice a week, but with time the visits required are less frequent.
Although Kidney Transplant is the best option for persons with permanent kidney failure, all may not be suitable candidates for transplant due to other co existing illnesses. Your nephrologist can assess if you are suitable for a kidney transplant.
